Technical Operations is the maintenance, repair and overhaul division of United. The department includes aircraft maintenance technicians, engineers, planners, ground equipment and facilities teams, supply chain teams and more.
Ground Service Equipment Technician - Boston, MA (BOS)
Starting Salary: $24.80 ($21.17 base pay +$2.63 license premium + $1.00 line premium)
As a Ground Service Equipment Technician you will work in a fast-paced airport environment. At airport terminals across the country, the United Ground Service Equipment Technician plays a very important role in providing quality service to our internal customers. Ground Service Equipment Technician should have a thorough knowledge of operating, maintaining, and repairing light to heavy duty trucks and related airport ground equipment, including:
Electronics diagnostics and troubleshooting experience.
Mechanical, electrical, welding and hydraulic experience.
Climbing and working from ladders, and/or walking for extended periods of time.
Work may be performed on the ramp (terminal or hangar area), or other outdoor and indoor airport areas where employees may be exposed to a wide variety of weather conditions, noise and fumes for extended periods.
Indoor work may require exposure to noise, ground equipment and machinery, and exposure to chemical and petroleum fuel fumes.
Demonstrate working knowledge of basic shop safety rules and procedures.
Individual will work with the Boston maintenance team and learn the facilities side of the shop.
Ground Service Equipment Technicians must be able to work around the clock shifts, including weekends and holidays, in the outdoors in all weather conditions. Schedules are bid and awarded according to seniority. Related experience is a plus.
- High School diploma or GED required.
Must be at least 18 years of age.
Must possess a valid state issued driver's license.
Acceptable driving record required.
Twelve months experience in trouble shooting, repair, and maintenance of gas and diesel engines; electrical and hydraulic systems; or motorized equipment supporting airport ground handling operations, or a certificate of completion from an accredited automotive school.
Basic computer knowledge (data entry/retrieval).
ASE Certification preferred.
Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship.
Ground Service Equipment Technicians are represented by the International Brotherhood of Teamsters (IBT). Salary increases will be administered according to the current IBT/United contract. Shift differentials of $.51 and $.58 cents per hour for working an afternoon or evening shift respectively are paid in addition to the hourly rate. New employees are required to join the union within ninety (90) days of employment. There is an initiation fee for joining the union and subsequent monthly dues which are set by the Local Lodge.
