Job overview and responsibilities

Oversees and primary responsibility for ensuring operational Safety, OSHA and FAA regulatory compliance at the assigned Hub. The leader is responsible to have in-depth knowledge of United, FAA, OSHA and local Safety requirements i.e. state, city. The leader must have a proven track record for decisive actions backed by strategic planning, continuous improvement, analytical thinking, goal-directed leadership and service-oriented performance. This leader will deliver results through leadership, direction, alignment and motivation. This leader coordinates local safety and compliance efforts with union leadership and coordinates investigations, analysis, and reporting for incidents, accidents, injuries and issues of regulatory non-compliance with station leadership. Serves as primary liaison between Airport Operations Safety and the assigned Hub.

  • Implementing and managing proactive safety and compliance initiatives

  • Facilitates and ensures station conducts thorough investigations, root cause analysis, and sustainable corrective actions for injuries, aircraft damages and issues of regulatory non-compliance

  • Develops, implements and maintains station level safety and compliance programs

  • Acts and performs as primary liaison with Corporate Support Center, OSHA, FAA, state & local governments, Legal, and labor groups on all safety and compliance programs


  • Undergraduate degree in technical, safety, or aviation related discipline or equivalent level of operational work experience

  • Working knowledge of pertinent OSHA, Federal Aviation Regulations, Advisory Circulars, Operating Specifications, Air Transportation Oversight System, International Air Transport Association Operational Safety Audit, and Department of Defense Quality and Safety Requirements or equivalent safety, quality or compliance experience in an operational capacity

  • Proven Leadership and decision-making skills

  • 3 – 5 years’ experience in Operations, Airline Safety or Industrial Safety

  • 2 years in a managerial role

  • Demonstrated communication skills

  • Some periodic travel may be required

  • Schedule is generally Mon – Fri but must have the ability to be on call and available during non-business hours

  • Must have a valid state-issued driver's license

  • Regular attendance is required at the work location of O’Hare International Airport (ORD)

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship

  • Successful completion of interview required to meet job qualification

  • Reliable, punctual attendance is an essential function of the position


  • Advanced degree or certification in quality, safety or related discipline

  • OSHA 10 or 30-hour training

  • In-depth knowledge of OSHA & FAA regulations, FAA Safety Assurance System, and experience interfacing with FAA and OSHA

  • 5 years with a major or commuter air carrier in an operating or safety/quality/regulatory role

  • Transportation or operational background

  • Operational airline knowledge and experience

  • Demonstrated direct interaction with OSHA and Federal Aviation Administration Certificate Management Office personnel

  • Formal SMS training

  • Materially participated in hazard identification and safety risk mitigation work

  • Cross-divisional experience in various management/leadership roles
