The Airport Operations department keeps operations at our airports running smoothly through planning, organization and supervision.

Job overview and responsibilities

Directs airport operations activities in an international line station in order to achieve company goals for our stakeholders, our customers, employees and investors. Directs the airport operational activities for all airport lines of service including customer service, ramp service, aircraft appearance, cargo service and station control center/operations in a fully vendor and outsourced environment. Ensures station goals and standards, service levels, costs, and safety requirements including GSC responsibilities. Ensures that station safety goals and initiatives are met. Ensure all the security measures are rightly in place to comply with AOSSP and UA internal security requirements for EXTRAORDINARY SECURITY STATION. Monitors all performance against plans and work with manager and all the stakeholder departments to come up with corrective actions to improve results on daily operations. Oversees the implementation of contract services & vendor relationships as applicable. Provides feedback to the manager of any cost saving opportunities or revenue generating initiatives for the station to become competitive. Leads the focus on customer satisfaction & continuous improvement activities and initiatives. Coaches and mentors 95 GHA staff in station. Leads and motivates a team of staff and vendors to fulfill station goals. Ensures that corporate and divisional messages and initiatives are clearly communicated to GHA employees and vendor representatives. Act as alternate to manager to represent airport activities to local government agencies, AOC as well as the FAA/TSA.

Responsible for overall direction of United’s airport and cargo operations in a specific international airport.

  • Oversees and directs operational safety and security; flight departure reliability; customer processing; plane-side operations including ramp operations and customer service; baggage handling; fuelling; aircraft appearance and cabin provisioning, airport policies and procedures; on-ground product technology and equipment deployment; and vendor operations

  • Responsible for United’s cargo operations at the airport including service delivery, warehouse operations, security and mail performance

  • Ensures consistent implementation of goals, plans and performance standards for customer service, operational performance, safety, financial performance, employee engagement and security

  • Provides financial oversight for station level Airport Operations & Cargo expenses – ensuring that targets are met

  • Continuously identifies new ways to add value and to position the organization for success

  • Attracts, develops and retains frontline leadership and frontline vendor employees

  • Maintains positive vendor relations & various airport management relations and ongoing exchange of information and ideas

  • Represents the company to local governmental agencies (TSA, Local airport authorities & AOC)

This position is offered on local terms and conditions. Expatriate assignments and sponsorship for employment visas, even on a time-limited visa status, will not be awarded.


  • College or equivalent work experience

  • GSC (Ground Security Coordinator)

  • Outsourced vendor contracts, local work rules

  • 5 years leadership experience

  • Must be fluent in English and Spanish (written and spoken)

  • Must be legally authorized to work in Costa Rica for any employer without sponsorship

  • Successful completion of interview required to meet job qualification

  • Reliable, punctual attendance is an essential function of the position
